PANJIM: Chandigarh took a massive first-innings lead of 149 runs over the Goa team in the Cooch Behar Trophy Elite cricket tournament (Group D) played at the Goa Cricket Association Academy ground, Porvorim, on Thursday.
In reply to Goa’s first-innings total of 308 all out, Chandigarh piled up 457 all out in their first innings. At the end of the third day, Goa, in their second innings, reached 106 for the loss of one wicket and are still trailing by 43 runs.
Chandigarh resumed play on Thursday from their overnight score of 270 for 4 on the second day. Opener Abhimanyu, resuming on 120, went on to score a magnificent double century, making 220 runs with the help of 15 fours and 6 sixes. He received good support from the lower-order batters Aditya, Parth, and Gaganpreet Singh.
For Goa, Shiven Borkar was the most impressive bowler, claiming six wickets for 117 runs in 40.3 overs, including five maiden overs. Mihir Kudalkar took two wickets, while Chigurupati Venkata and Yash Kasvankar picked up one wicket each.
In the second innings, Goa got off to a solid start as Aditya Kota and Sarthak Bhike put on 78 runs for the opening stand in 27.5 overs. Sarthak was dismissed for 32. At the close of play, Aditya remained unbeaten on 60. Facing 134 deliveries, he struck seven fours. Shaantanu Nevagi was batting alongside him on 10 not out.
