Sanvordem MLA and Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) Chairman Ganesh Gaonkar is likely to be fielded by the ruling side as its candidate for the Speaker’s post in the Goa Legislative Assembly, sources said.
The vacancy arises following Ramesh Tawadkar’s resignation ahead of his expected induction into the state Cabinet.

According to sources, the government is considering convening a special session of the Assembly after Chaturthi to conduct the Speaker’s election.
An official decision on Gaonkar’s candidature and the session schedule is expected to be announced soon.
