VALPOI: The rural Sanvordem Panchayat of Valpoi constituency held a gram sabha in the panchayat building on Sunday, which was attended by around 50 villagers.
The panchayat has been facing various problems, with the gram sabha grappling with issues including lack of proper roads in panchayat wards, no power supply during night in panchayat area, bus sheds at bus stops, renovation of the local high school, renovation of panchayat springs etc.
Besides, villagers have also demanded a Bal Bhavan in the panchayat area.
The villagers are of the opinion that the Government High school in Savordem Panchayat is in bad condition and the strength of school students too was decreasing every academic year as the children from the panchayat area were going in others schools in the area.
In fact, a PTA meeting has been called to ascertain the reason for students opting out of the school, says a villager Mahadev Gaonkar, who feels a proper discussion will help them find a solution.
The newly-elected panchayat body will discuss the issue with PTA and has fixed a meeting next Sunday.
Villagers have also demanded that the panchayat do something about the power situation as there has been no electricity in the village during the night. In fact all nine wards of the panchayat are plunged into darkness at night and villagers have demanded that the panchayat take a resolution to solve the problem.
The panchayat have taken the six resolutions at the gram sabha, including the constructions of new roads in wards and appointment of a full-time electrician, besides renovation of the panchayat spring, retaining walls, shed for panchayat bus stops and the renovation of high school building.
