VASCO: Hundreds of people from across the State thronged to the port town on Saturday to participate in the 115th edition of the famous Vasco Saptah, which began with the traditional rituals at the Lord Damodar temple, Vasco.
Businessman Paresh Joshi placed the Sreefal at the feet of Lord Damodar on Saturday afternoon, which marked the beginning of the Vasco Saptah.
A number of politicians cutting across party lines, including Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza, South Goa MP Narendra Savoikar, Power Minister Milind Naik, Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida, Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho, Speaker Rajendra Arlekar, former minister Jose Philip D’Souza and senior police officials, were seen seeking the blessings of Lord Damodar.
The religious ceremony, which started on Saturday afternoon, will conclude on Sunday afternoon with the immersion of the Sreefal at Vasco beach. The traditional fair will, however, continue for seven days.
Speaking to Herald, Mormugao Municipal Council Chief Officer Meghnath P Porob said the fair this year would be restricted to seven days, till August 8.
“Stall owners will have to clear the footpath and the roads will be opened to the general public and vehicular traffic,” informed Porob and added that there would be no extensions granted.
