MARGAO: Boat owners and crew members of the ill-fated Sea Messiah, Friday bid adieu to the five crew members who met a watery grave in last week’s mid-sea mishap.
The final rites of the five deceased crew members were performed on Friday after post mortem examination at the Hospicio mortuary. While the mortal remains of four crew members were cremated at the Pajifond crematorium, the remains of the fifth crew member were laid to rest at the Holy Spirit cemetery this evening.
Boat owner Martin Fernandes and crew members were present to pay their last respects to the deceased. Fernandes said that family members of the deceased crew members had come down from Orissa for the last rites.
He said efforts are on to ensure that the kith and kin of the deceased receive the compensation announced by the government after completing the necessary formalities.
