PWD Minister Digambar Kamat on Thursday emphasised that security remains central to the vision of a developed India. Referring to the Prime Minister’s call for a secure and progressive nation, Kamat said every form of security—family, industrial, environmental, economic, social, and cyber—acts as a catalyst for societal transformation.
Kamat was speaking as the chief guest at the 35th anniversary celebration of the International Institute of Security and Safety Management (IISSM), held at a South Goa hotel.

Padma Bhushan awardee and renowned environmentalist Chandi Prasad Bhatt, who attended as the special guest, highlighted the global challenges posed by climate change. He said environmental disruptions naturally lead to concern and introspection and praised IISSM for contributing meaningfully to this area.
IISSM Chief Executive Officer Prof. Santosh Kumar laid out the institute’s future roadmap, stating that IISSM aims to enhance capacity building among private security agencies. He added that the institute will expand its work in disaster management and national security through collaborations with Civil Defence under a PPP model.
According to Prof. Kumar, India currently employs 26 lakh government security personnel and nearly 80 lakh private security guards. He stressed the need for strict implementation of the Prime Minister’s 10-point action plan on disaster management.
The event was also addressed by former NDRF Director General and former Uttar Pradesh DGP OP Singh, IISSM President and former Assam DGP MG Shrivastava, Prof. Ravi Sinha of IIT Mumbai, Tapas Choudhary, and several other dignitaries.
