PANJIM: Even as the 44th International Film Festival of India reaches its finale, the Entertainment Society of Goa has failed to redress one of the most basic grievances of people frequenting its vicinity ~ the overflowing sewage chamber only adding to an already unsightly entrance gate near the market bus bay.
Be it the stench of fish, the sleeping beggars on the street, the squabbling bus conductors and now the overflowing sewage chamber, the organizers could certainly have got their act together to spruce up ahead of the State’s showpiece event.
The chamber, which emerges from the toilet within the ESG complex, has been overflowing for at least the last two days with no action being taken on the issue.
Meanwhile, the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has set up an on-site composting unit at the IFFI complex at ESG where wet waste is being treated on the spot. CCP Commissioner Sanjit Rodrigues said, “This is a new unit and we are trying it out for the first time.” The on-site composting unit can cater to half a ton of wet waste even though wet waste generation during the on-going IFFI is much less than the capacity of the unit.
