PANJIM: Shantaram Naik Rajya Sabha MP coming out in support of the bill passed by assembly on Mayem, said that he would take up the matter of the Portuguese interference in the forthcoming session of Rajya Sabha. Arguing that that the assembly has all the powers to legislate in the matters of the land which form part of the state, Naik said that the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, should immediately send the bill for the assent of the governor  who should  give his assent without reserving it for the consideration of president as there is no case for reserving the assent.
In a communiqué issued
here, he called the Portuguese government action of directly or indirectly questioning the right of the  assembly as undiplomatic arguing that the assembly had the right to protect the interest of the people there.
Naik said that India is a sovereign country and territories of Goa are an integral part of the country and obviously of the State of Goa.
Naik said that he himself was a ‘Gaoncar’ of Cuncolim and alleged that the Portuguese had forcibly snatched the land from the Gaoncars of Cuncolim,  which was declared as evacuee property by the MGP government after the liberation of Goa, but the association of Gaoncars fought the matter in the then Judicial Commissioner’s Court (equivalent to High Court) and got the back restored to Gaoncars.
Naik said that the Mayem Bhu-Vimochan Nagrik Kriti Samiti  has rightly contested the right of Portuguese  government who has objected to the Goa assembly passing  the Goa (Abolition of Proprietorships, Titles and Grants of Lands) Bill, 2014, passed  during the last budget session. He also pointed out that the application of tenancy and mundcar legislations to the holders of land in Mayem , during Congress regime too, has also given the people Mayem substantial relief.
The MP?said that India is a sovereign country and territories of Goa are an integral part of the country and obviously of the State of Goa.
