PANJIM: ONGC edged out a BPCL, Kochi determined to claim the All India Volleyball tournament prize organised by Cuncolim Union by three sets to one, on Sunday.
ONGC won the first two sets 25-20, 25-18. The third set was a ding dong battle. The fourth set witnessed ONGC taking and maintaining the lead again to win the match and the final.
In the battle for the third place HSIDC trounced 2STC in straight sets 25-13,25-11,25-23. As usual Jitander and Sube Singh were the main anchors for their team.
Cuncolim Union president Elvis Gomes gave volleyball lovers plenty to be happy by stating that the club will be organising an international tournament next year saying “Brazil are keen.” Gomes asked the members of the Goa Volleyball Association to start organising a volleyball league in Goa.
Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza was the chief guest, while chief secretart B Vijayan was the guest of honour.
