PANJIM: Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) co-opted councillor Kabir Pinto Makhija on Wednesday demanded that the annual Lokotsav which is set to be organised in the Kala Academy complex at Campal be moved out of the Panjim in order to avoid traffic congestion.

After attending the brief CCP meeting, Makhija said that the forthcoming Lokotsav and the activities organised at the Bandodkar ground, Campal cause traffic congestion and cause inconvenience to the residents.
“I had raised this issue during the last CCP meeting. Thousands of people visit Lokotsav held at Kala Academy complex every year. Since it causes traffic congestion, I had requested the Mayor to shift it outside the city. The long duration festival causes inconvenience to Campal and Miramar residents due to haphazard parking and even blocking entrances of buildings and noise pollution,” Makhija said.
He suggested that such events be organised at better locations like Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee indoor stadium at Taleigao.
Councillor Nelson Cabral urged the Mayor to retain the land acquired for cemetery for the use of Caranzalem residents. He alleged that there were attempts to encroach on the government land and urged the Mayor to repair the Caranzalem road ahead of Christmas.
Councillor Vasant Agashikar also demanded cleaning of 15 wells in his wards. “Panjim is blessed with several wells which are our assets but we need to maintain, repair, rejuvenate and revive them, as many well have been contaminated due to leakages in our sewer lines,” he said.
