VASCO: A meeting to elect the new Shigmotsav committee of Vasco witnessed noisy scenes after the AAP Vasco coordinator claimed that committee members often praised the BJP government during the float parade in the port town.
Speaking to Herald later, AAP Vasco coordinator Chandrakant Vast stated that he had asked the Murgaon Nagrik Shigmotsav Samiti, which had convened the meeting, to change the committee as the same people were being elected.
He further said, “I also wanted to inform that committee members often use the platform of Shigmotsav to praise the BJP government, which is incorrect as this is the people’s celebration and not any party’s. Instead of considering my suggestions, four persons started abusing me in front of the others. One of them even threw his mobile phone at me, but it did not hit me. Two of them later even threatened me with dire consequences. I have now lodged a police complaint against four persons.”
When questioned about the incident, MNSS chairman Shekhar Khadapkar refuted Vast’s allegations saying, “The hall was jam-packed with people and I did not see any such incident in the meeting. I am not aware of the police complaint made by Vast.”
If a complaint has been made, then it is for the police to investigate.”
