PANJIM: Panjim is in for a colourful extravaganza on Saturday, as the Shigmo float parade is set to dazzle the thousands who will line up the route. As was done for the carnival float parade, the authorities have shifted the traditional route of the Shigmo float parade to the Miramar-Caranzalem stretch.
The Shigmo parade will give all a chance to get a glimpse at the Goan life depicted through elaborate folk performances by men and women dancing tirelessly along with the parade. Traditional folk dances and performances of mythological scenes will be the major highlight of this year’s parades. Tourism Department is confident the Shigmo festival will be bigger and better this year.
The float parade will commence from the Goa Science Centre, Miramar and go up to the Harley Davidson Showroom, Caranzalem. Before the commencement of the parade at around 4 pm, the floats will be lined up on the Dr Jack Sequeira Road from Miramar Circle to Science Centre.
Vehicular traffic will be barred on the parade route from 2 pm till the procession is over. The Traffic Department has already begun spreading awareness on the traffic diversion, parking and no parking zones for the day.
