MAPUSA: The Siolim Marna Sarpanch Sharmila Vernekar was in a tight corner after irate villagers questioned her as to why the panchayat body had not initiated action against a nightclub for disturbing the peace and tranquility of the neighbourhood by playing loud music at nights.

Several frustrated villagers highlighted the issue of loud music being allegedly played by Thalassa, a nightclub located at Vaddi Siolim and questioned the panchayat for remaining mute spectators to the wrongdoings and refraining to initiate against the nightclub.
“The nightclub plays loud music throughout the night till the wee hours and despite filing several complaints with the police and the panchayat the authorities have failed to act,” said a villager.
“The panchayat should take tough action and demolish this structure which is creating nuisance. If the panchayat cannot take action then the villagers will unitedly bring the structure down,” threatened a local, Sachin Revodkar.
Sensing the pulse of the people the Sarpanch giving into the demands of angry villagers responded “I will take strict action. I promise.”
