MARGAO: The process of by-elections to the Zilla panchayat constituencies has already begun, but the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is yet to finalize the name of their candidate for the Davorlim constituency.
BJP State President Sadanand Tanavade informed that selection of the candidate will be done within the next couple of days.
Speaking to reporters on the sideline of one of the programmes held at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao on Monday he said “Teams at the local level will first shortlist the names and then send it to the state selection committee for the final decision.”
The by-elections to the Zilla panchayat constituencies of Reis Magos, Cortalim and Davorlim will be held on October 16, as such, the election model code of conduct has already come into force in these villages.
The ZP seat at Davorlim is vacant since Ulhas Tuenkar has been elected as an MLA from the Navelim constituency.
“MLA Tuenkar is our party leader and hence BJP is very much strong in Navelim constituency. We will surely win the Davorlim ZP seat,” said Tanavade.
The filing of nominations will begin on September 28 and will end on October 6. The counting of votes will take place on October 18.
