PANJIM: Long wait for some senior Police Inspector came to an end with Goa Public Service Commission recommending promotion of six officers to the rank of deputy superintendents of police. Commission Chairman Jose Manual Noronha said that promotions were recommended at its Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meeting.

Six Police Inspectors Prabodh Shirwaikar, Harishchandra Madkaikar, Santosh Desai, Uday Parab, Sandesh Chodankar and Sheikh Salim are the new promoted officers now. “PIs with five years of regular service are eligible to be promoted to the position of DySP,” Noronha added.
Herald had been regularly reporting about the tussle over filling up DySP posts through direct recruitments with some in the government opposing 100 per cent promotions. Successive governments have been amending direct recruitment quota percentage from time to time. The promotion and direct recruitment ratio was amended from 80:20 in 1997 to 50:50 in 2011 and a fresh proposal to make it to 60:40 in July 2019. This proposal has not met any logical end due to opposition from separate groups over direct recruitments and promotions.
Meanwhile, the Commission has also lifted the probation period of five deputy directors of the Education Department in addition to promoting two officers in the Department of Planning and Statistics.
