Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Friday slammed the BJP-led government over the contaminated water crisis in Indore, calling it a “smart city without drinking water.” Visiting the city’s Bhagirathpura area, Gandhi met families affected by the tragedy, in which 24 people have reportedly died after consuming polluted water.
Gandhi first visited Bombay Hospital, where he interacted with patients undergoing treatment and their relatives, enquiring about medical expenses and administrative failures. Later, he toured the affected locality, accompanied by senior Congress leaders, and met bereaved families.

At Sanskar Garden, Gandhi distributed compensation cheques of Rs 1 lakh to affected families, with additional assistance announced by the state Congress. He alleged systemic negligence and demanded accountability, saying clean water remains unavailable even now.
