VASCO: Making strong appeal to the State BJP government to intervene and resolve their pending salary issue before code of conduct is imposed for forthcoming assembly polls, the Western India Shipyard Limited (WISL) workers union on Saturday reiterated its threat to disrupt BJP political meetings in Goa and specially in Mormugao and Mandrem Constituency presently represented by Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar.
Addressing a well attended public meeting called by the WISL workers at Headland Sada on Saturday, Union Secretary Seby Pereira said that the workers called off their month-long protest including hunger strike till death (by two Union members), only on the assurances given by Power Minister Milind Naik that he has convinced the WISL management to pay “our pending salary and if we accept four-month salary first, then other five months salary of 350 odd workers would be released by WISL management by October 15.”
Pereira said that the workers accepted four-month salary, but now have been waiting for five months salary.
“We feel that Naik has betrayed our trust as all his assurances turned out to be fake. If he had taken interest in resolving our salary issue, then, today we would have not come forward to restart our protest for the same reasons. Today, with this public meeting, we want to inform the people of headland Sada, that our MLA fooled us by making false assurances and we believe that our MLA has done some settlement with the WISL management and is now not interested to resolve our issues,” he alleged.
