PONDA: Admitting that government buildings are becoming dilapidated due to improper maintenance, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said that he plans to set up special maintenance fund for government-owned infrastructure.
Parrikar stated this after commissioning the renovation work of Kranti Maidan and unveiling of traffic management plan for Ponda town on Wednesday evening.
“There should be a special fund to look after maintenance of government infrastructure and I am planning to set up a maintenance fund. From January 1, 2014 I will be working on this aspect,” said Manohar Parrikar.
Also present on the occasion were PWD and Transport Minister Sudin Dhavlikar, Minister for Cooperation Deepak Dhavlikar, Industries Minister Mahadev Naik, Ponda MLA Lavoo Mamledar, PMC Chairperson Dr Radhika Nayak, Colonel P Chakravarti, councillors, freedom fighters and others.
Sudin Dhavlikar said the renovation work of Kranti Maidan would be completed by Goa Revolution Day next year.
“Chief Minister assured his support after I informed him of plans to renovate the existing Kranti Maidan. Apart from beatification and other facilities, there will be granite pillars installed with names of the freedom fighters with their information so that they are not forgotten,” he said.
Dhavlikar further said that the traffic master plan for the town will help people of Ponda. “Under this plan there will be separate duct for pipelines and cables and pathways for pedestrians, flyovers and so on. It is surprising to note that some people with vested interest are objecting to the master plan; however, these people did not come for a single meeting held in the municipality,” claimed Dhavlikar.
