Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar held up in Verna agitation

VERNA: Tension erupted at Verna circle as agitated parents under the banner of ‘Forum for Rights of Children to Education’ (FORCE) blocked the car of Sports Minister, Ramesh Tawadkar who was on his way to the Assembly Session.

The drama started early morning when parents across the state blocked all the major highways, including NH17 in Verna. However, while Tawadkar was on his way to the Secretariat in Porvorim, he was caught in the trap of the agitated mob. Tawadkar was inside his car for almost two hours, as people demanded for him to come out of his vehicle and give an assurance to resolve the matter. “We want the Minister to come out of the car and assure us that he will raise the matter on the floor of the house and fight for our cause. Until he assures this, we are not letting him go ahead,” said one of the angry agitators.
However finally, under the security of police personnel who reached the spot, Tawadkar came out of his car and addressed the mob. Assuring to raise the matter on the floor of the house in the ongoing assembly session, he said, “I have understood your grievances and I will try to discuss the matter with the state government and Chief Minister.”
Meanwhile, Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco who later reached the spot urged the people to clear the road. He however, assured to continue his fight for the people. “Those who are opposing English, have their own kids studying in English schools. We will take up this fight. I will fight again in the assembly. I will fight with the people of Goa,” he said.
