CALANGUTE: The All-Goa Tourism Stakeholders Association has opposed the proposed Tourism Promotion Management Bill 2024, stating that it is detrimental to interests of the Goan tourism industry.
They threatened to launch an agitation if the government goes ahead and introduces the bill in the assembly.

“We have come together to oppose the tourism bill. It’s a very bad bill for Goans. This bill will finish Goans and will not benefit Goans in any way. Instead it will create difficulties for us,” John Lobo, president of the association, said at a press conference in Calangute on Tuesday. Association committee members were also present.
Lobo said the proposed two per cent cess will be an additional burden on tourism businesses which already pay 18% GST besides various other fees.
He also said the proposal to introduce a licence for holding events with more than 25 persons is also unrealistic because it would mean that they would have to apply for a licence to hold even family functions like birthdays.
