NEW DELHI: The Goa Government’s counsel on Thursday pressed before the three-judge forest bench of the Supreme Court for early hearing on the ban imposed by it on all mining activities in the State since October 5.
Justice Aftab Alam heading the Bench told him that there was no need to press for early hearing when the case has already been put on the active list and it would come up accordingly. The Goa case is listed immediately after the Karnataka matter which came up for hearing on Thursday afternoon after the Court reserved its order in the Orissa matters, after completing the hearing. The Bench will now assemble on Tuesday for further hearing in the Karnataka mining matters.

The speed with which the Court is now trying for disposal of the cases pending for long time, the Goa case may come up for hearing the next week after the Karnataka matters are over, though it may take some time as senior advocate Harish Salve, who has been appointed as amicus curie by the court, has not yet got copies of all documents before the court.
The state government, meanwhile, issued a press release stating that Advocate General Atmaram Nadkarni made a special mention on the mining issue in the “interest of the State and its people“ and Hon’ble Supreme Court has agreed to the request and has now fixed the hearing in the Goa mining case for February 27, 2013.
