Social worker Sudesh Mayekar has called upon Michael Lobo, MLA of Calangute, to convene a joint meeting of all four panchayats within the constituency to review the large-scale conversion of agricultural lands, hills, natural cover, and slopes.
Mayekar stressed the urgent need to assess the extent of environmental changes taking place in the region and evaluate their long-term impact. He urged that a detailed review be conducted collectively by the local bodies before submitting a formal representation to the Chief Minister seeking a sustainable and balanced solution.

Highlighting growing concerns over ecological degradation, Mayekar said safeguarding Calangute’s environment must be treated as a priority. He expressed confidence that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Minister would take the necessary steps to address the issue and implement measures to protect the area’s natural landscape.
The appeal comes amid increasing debate over land use changes in coastal and tourism-heavy belts of Goa, with environmental conservation emerging as a key concern among residents and activists.
