The Food and Drugs Administration Goa (FDA) conducted a surveillance drive on February 24, 2026, across Calangute, Arpora, Anjuna and Thivim, inspecting multiple categories of food business operators to ensure compliance with food safety norms.
During the drive, a total of 14 establishments were inspected, including ice manufacturing units, discotheque kitchens, restaurants and cashew retailers. Out of these, four units were directed to suspend operations until they achieve full compliance with stipulated regulations.

Officials also confiscated approximately 150 kilograms of misbranded cashew nuts and mislabelled chocolate analogues from a retailer in Baga. In a separate case, one retailer was penalised Rs 5,000 for stocking and selling expired confectionery items.
The FDA has stated that such surveillance drives will continue across various regions to strengthen food safety enforcement. Authorities have urged all food business operators to strictly adhere to prescribed norms, warning that failure to comply may result in suspension of licences.
The inspection team was led by Designated Officer Richard Noronha and Food Safety Officers Lenin De Sa and Amit Mandrekar, along with staff member Sandeep Shelke, under the guidance of Director Shweta Dessai.
