PANJIM: The drafts of Taleigao and Mapusa Outline Development Plans will sent to the government for approval by December 20, North Goa Planning and Development Authority chairman Michael Lobo said on Monday.
Addressing the media at NGPDA office, Lobo said the ODPs for Taleigao and Mapusa are in the final stages. “Some 250 inspections have been completed in Mapusa while 235 have been completed in Taleigao. The drafts will be sent to the government for final approval by December 20,” Lobo said.
Lobo also disclosed that 20 lakh square metres of agricultural land from Khorlim to Maddo in Mapusa will be notified as Town and Country Planning Scheme.
When asked why agricultural land is being converted to commercial, Lobo replied, “Only 20,000 to 30,000 sq metres of land is being cultivated and the rest is just barren.”
“These fields have a lot of stagnant water and there is need to construct nullahs etc. The area will be developed at international standards in lines with EDC Patto Plaza,” he added.
Asked how they intend to compensate the farmers, Lobo said, “It will be on profit sharing basis. The owners will get 250 percent FAR and land developed by the government.”
