Tanker catches fire

MARGAO, JAN 20 A tanker transporting bitumen to the hot mix plant at Balli caught fire, damaging nine tyres, besides two batteries. The owner tanker has put the loss to around Rs eight lakh, the fire services has estimated the loss to Rs 3 lakh and has claimed to have saved property worth Rs 7 lakh.

A tanker transporting bitumen to the hot mix plant at Balli caught fire, damaging nine tyres, besides two batteries.
The owner tanker has put the loss to around Rs eight lakh, the fire services has estimated the loss to Rs 3 lakh and has claimed to have saved property worth Rs 7 lakh. The incident occurred on Thursday morning when the tanker carrying around 16 ton bitumen arrived at the plant. Cuncolim police said the incident occurred when the dry grass caught fire from the sparks when the melting process was on. The fire soon spread to the tyres and later the 2 batteries. A fire tender from Margao which rushed to the spot manage to bring the fire under control, but not before the fire damaged the nine tyres and the batteries.
