The Margao police were caught napping once again after burglars made merry along the old station road last night.
While the police were conspicuous by their absence along the migrant inhabited station road, the burglars made their presence felt in the locality and targeted as many as five establishments in one single night.
An embarrassed Margao police tried to sweep the daring burglary under the carpet, by denying any thefts along the station road last night.
But, inquiries have revealed that the burglars effective their entry into a spare part shop, a bakery, mobile outlet, a fishing material shop, besides another shop.
The burglars effected entry into the establishments by removing the roof tiles, but fortunately the miscreants could not hit a jackpot. They are believed to have taken small amount of cash stored in the establishments.
Incidentally, one of the establishments was targeted by the burglars just a week ago by digging a hole, which had prompted the owner to plug the hole with iron grills.
When contacted, Margao police personnel denied the burglaries, saying that nothing is registered in the diary.
Sources in the know, however, said that the police were intimated of the incident early morning, after which they had made a panchanama of the establishments.
