Verna Police on Thursday arrested three persons in connection with the murder of 30-year-old labourer from Jharkhand.
It may be recalled that Rupesh Mitra was found murdered at an excavation site at an isolated plateau at Old Mardol, Verna, on Wednesday morning.
Verna Police Inspector Jivba Dalvi informed that the main accused Rajesh Mistra from Jharkhand along with his two friends, Praveshkumar Nand (22) and Surdarshan Mistra (23), allegedly murdered Mitra to take revenge, as Mitra had allegedly murdered Mistra’s brother in Jharkhand.
“Deceased Rupesh Mitra had criminal background and he was suspected to be involved in the murder of Rajesh’s elder brother, Rajendra, in Jharkhand,” said PI Dalvi.
During the course of investigation, Verna Police traced the voter identity card of the deceased and enquiries with their counterpart in Jharkhand revealed that some of the relatives of deceased are also working in Goa.
“Jharkhand Police further informed that the deceased had criminal background and he was also suspected in a murder case registered at Kamdara Police Station, Gumla District, Jharkhand,” said PI Dalvi.
Rajesh Mistra’s elder brother was shot dead and his family members were suspecting deceased’s involvement in the crime, while Rajesh is presently working in Verna Industrial Estate.
When police laid the trap to arrest Rajesh, police found fresh injury marks on Rajesh’s hands. During further interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime and he had killed Rupesh to take revenge of his bother’s killing.
After Rajesh was detained, police arrested two more accused involved in the crime, who also confessed to the crime.
PI Dalvi along PSI S Gawas, Head Constable Razak Mohammad, Police Constables Sudhir Talekar, Jayesh Agarwadekar, Prashant Naik, Vinay Kalangutkar, Vishal Bhuimber, R Naik under the guidance of South Goa Superintendent Allen D’Sa and DySP Mahesh Gaonkar were involved in cracking the case.
