Contrary to reports that the authorities have lifted away the tar balls from the affected beach belt, large traces of the oily substance was still found along the Gandaulim-Colva shoreline till date.
Local activists cried foul over the lackadaisical attitude of the authorities to lift away the collected tar balls from the Gandaulim stretch of the Colva beach.  Colva Civic and Consumer Forum secretary Judith Almeida sought to know whether the authorities really care for the environment and the people. “We are fed up of this government, who had promised to collect the tar balls from the coastline. What was collected on September 1 continues to remain where it is, especially on the Gandaulim stretch of the Colva beach”, Almeida asserted.
She demanded to know whether the Ministers and the officials have any concern for the environment. “I will show to the authorities the large scale presence of the tar ball if they claim that they have disposed off the oily substance”, she added.
Almeida said that the authorities should be held for criminal neglect of the environment and disclosed plans to approach the courts if the concerned agencies fail to act immediately.
