Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club humbled Orlim Sports Club 3-0 to move into the quarter-finals of Sao Jose de Areal Panchayat Cup inter-village football tournament organised by Sao Jose de Areal SC at Padribhat ground, Sao Jose de Areal on Monday. Sao Jose were leading 1-0 at the breather.
Sao Jose dominated both sessions with Mariano Mascarenhas striking early as their opponents looked out of sorts, both in the midfield and forward.
Sao Jose had a couple of scoring opportunities but their forwards either shot straight into the rival goalkeeper’ hands or shot wide from hand-shaking distance.
Crossing over, Shelton Dias doubled the lead with a snap shot as he received a pass from Mariano.
Spurred by the 2-0 cushion, Sao Jose intensified their attack with striker Austin Endro adding salt to Orlim’s injury as he drove the last nail into the Orlim coffin with a well placed shot.
Orlim tried their best at the fag end to reduce the margin but their efforts went in vain as the Sao Jose de Areal defenders were too strong in repulsing the rival attacks.
Columban Noronha of Orlim SC was adjudged man-of-the match.
