PANJIM: The taxi operators in the State have threatened to agitate from next week, if Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant fails to scrap the app-based taxi service GoaMiles, as demanded by them.
Dr Sawant was supposed to chair meeting of the taxi operators and GoaMiles on Friday. However, the same was postponed to Monday, July 29, due to the other prior engagements of the chief minister.
Speaking to media persons, All Goa Tourist Taxi Owners Association President Chetan Kamat said that they were not informed about the postponement of the meeting.
“When we came here, we were informed that the meeting is postponed to Monday, next week. Despite that we met chief minister, who has assured us that a solution would be worked out during the meeting,” he said.
Kamat said that their only demand is to scrap GoaMiles.
“If chief minister fails to give us assurance to scrap GoaMiles, we will launch our agitation from Tuesday, next week, at Azad Maidan,” he said.
The taxi operators said that the agitation would be indefinite, till government decides to withdraw the app based taxi service.
Chief minister had chaired meeting of taxi operators on Tuesday, wherein the taxi owners were asked to come out with an alternative if they don’t want GoaMiles. The meeting was mediated by Minister for Ports Michael Lobo.
