MARGAO: The TB Cunha booth of Aquem, Margao has witnessed 6 elections over a timespan of 5 years. Re-polling for the one remaining part of the polling booth of Aquem Margao will be held on Tuesday.
The Election officials on Monday had to announcement the same in the ward to try and get maximum response for the polling scheduled for Tuesday.
The candidates of Margao were seen canvassing in the area as their one last attempt of wooing the voters.
The error of a presiding officer to reset the machine for fresh use after the mock drill resulted in repolling. However, voters too, would get more time to rethink and make up their mind. The ward is bogged down with issues like traffic snarls, parking, lack of playground and common use grounds for the numerous schools in the area among others.
Locals said, “We were taken aback due to the cancellation of voting. However, the officials should have taken a quick call and finished the voting on the same day to avoid further delay.”
On Monday, the poll officials went on a campaign to publicise the repoll for part 8 of Aquem.
Speculations are rife about whose chances are bright. People think the race will be tough and candidates will end up having a nail-biting finish. Candidates and their supoorters were seen canvassing hard to impress the voters. There are 791 votes in the area. This ward has 372 male against 419 females voters.
It may be recalled that the presiding officer on Feb 4, failed to reset the machine after the mock drill was conducted earlier and this led to the repoll. Around 192 votes were cast on Saturday after which, the number on the machine did not tally with the marked votes on the sheets. Following this, hectic consultations took place and the observer decided to blow the repoll whistle.
