PANJIM: While admitting that the TB Hospital at St Inez is in a dilapidated condition, Health Minister Laxmikant Parsekar Wednesday said that the hospital would be given a facelift and upgraded until the new hospital comes up at the Goa Medical College Complex in Bambolim.
Parsekar said that there was need for installing elevators for the patients visiting the hospital and other requirements and that the building was strong enough to absorb these changes.
He said that the old hospital was being used by medical students as such it would not be demolished even after the new one is constructed.
Parsekar however said that “the government has taken a policy decision to have a new hospital at the GMC complex for which tenders would be” floated soon. The new hospital is expected to be completed within three or four years.
When Bicholim Independent MLA Naresh Sawal raised concerns over having a TB hospital at the GMC complex due to the infection aspect involved, Parsekar said, “We are not treating TB as a stigma,” he said pointing out that it was going to be an independent building integrated in the medical college complex.
In a Zero Hour reply on another issue, Parsekar told Cuncolim MLA Rajan Naik that the Primary Health Centre at Bali would be provided with all the necessary equipment, staff and medical facilities after the construction work was completed.
He said there were many other primary health centres which are also under construction and once completed would be sanctioned the required medical personnel and facilities.
