The demand came during a special presentation organised by the SUDA officials in the MMC hall on Wednesday.
An Indore-based company has been appointed as consultant by the GSUDA to scientifically clear the dump at the Sonsodo.
MLAs Digambar Kamat and Vijai Sardesai, MMC chairperson Babita Angle Prabhudessai, SUDA officials, councillors and other officials were present.
Due to a technical snag, the presentation couldn’t be shown via projector. Instead, it was shown to the councillors on a laptop. The consultant firm has claimed that they would clear the dump within a year.
Councillor Rupesh Mahatme questioned the company whether they have measured the volumes and the depth of the garbage dumped at the site.
“The garbage dumped must have gone a metre below the ground and when one of the consultants discovered the same in the past, they just walked away.”
The presentation was cancelled following several doubts raised by the councillors regarding the procedure.
Presently, Fomento Green is treating the daily garbage at Sonsodo. There was a discussion at the High Power Committee meeting that until the dump is treated the Fomento Green cannot continue processing the garbage. Later SUDA appointed the consultant firm to process the garbage at the dump.
