PANJIM: The decks have been cleared for floating tenders for appointing a consultant to construct the new River Zuari Bridge, as the State government persists with its decision to go ahead, even as the Centre is tight lipped on sharing the financial burden for project as suggested by the for the PWD.
The government has decided to float tenders and the PWD will begin the process for appointing consultants for bridges over Zuari and Khandepar, within a week.
The financial sanctions to appoint consultants for both bridges have been received and the estimates of the consultancy are pegged at Rs 5.5 crore for Zuari Bridge and Rs 1.8 crore for Khandepar Bridge.
“The mandate before the consultant for Zuari Bridge is to chalk out the alignments, land acquisition, bridge design based on traffic patterns and possible introduction of toll,” said Principal Chief Engineer (PCE) J S Rego.
While the initial plan was for a six-lane Zuari Bridge, the government now intends having four-lane bridges over both the Zuari and the Khandepar rivers.
There will be two separate consultants for either bridge and the entire process for selecting the consultants is expected to take at least three to four months.
