MARGAO: Hospicio witnesses some tense moments this afternoon following the death of a nine-year-old child from Mandopa in Navelim with the family members alleging that the death was due to the negligence of the hospital staff that delayed sending the patient to Goa Medical College.
The child who was suffering from cancer was rushed to Hospicio this morning as she fainted at her home and the doctors then suggested that she be admitted either at Hospicio or be taken to GMC. The ambulance to take the patient to GMC was delayed as two other patients had to be transferred to Bambolim and meanwhile the child died.
The family members raised a hue and cry and accused the hospital staff of negligence and held it responsible for her death.
However, Medical Superintendent Dr Ira Almeida said the ambulance was delayed at the most by about 15 minutes and said that the death though unfortunate was inevitable as the child was suffering from cancer in its terminal stage.
