MARGAO: Demolition of an illegal religious structure in the South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) market complex early Monday morning triggered a tense situation with angry vendors enforcing total bandh in the market complex in protest.
The vendors have now served a 24-hour deadline on the authorities to install the religious structure in the market complex or face a total bandh. They have threatened to take to the streets if their demand is not fulfilled before the expiry of the deadline.
Tension rent the air in the market complex after the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Mamlatdar and DySP moved into the market with heavy machinery and police protection shortly after dawn to raze the illegal religious structure which is said to be venerated by Catholics, Hindus as well as Muslims.
