PANJIM: Despite redesigning the third Mandovi bridge, which has been done following the National Green Tribunal (NGT) order barring destruction of mangroves, the State government intends to complete the project by April 2017.
Addressing media persons, Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) Vice Chairman Siddharth Kuncolienkar said the government intends to stick to its date of April 2017, for completion of the bridge.
“We have speeded up the bridge work towards Porvorim to ensure that we have ample time to execute the new plan on land at the Panjim-Merces circle,” he said.
According to the earlier plan, the Rs 450 crore bridge, which would connect Porvorim to Merces circle, bypassing Panjim city was scheduled for completion by January 2017.
However, Goa Foundation moved the NGT alleging damage to the environment pointing out that around 247 mangrove trees were destroyed in the process.
