PANJIM: The North Goa Tourist Taxi Operators Association (NGTTOA) has called for an indefinite strike from April 11 demanding a stop to rent-a-cab operations.
NGTTOA General Secretary Vinay Nanoskar said that due to festivals and exams the strike has been postponed to April 11.
He said that if the government fails to resolve their issues by April 11, all tourist taxis will keep off the road as taxi operators, including at the airport, railway stations, hotels are supporting the strike. He said that they would also seek the support of tourist buses, tempos and rickshaws.
“We have been following up the rent a cab issue with the government for a couple of years and they have failed to resolve the issues and stop the operation of rent a cab,” Nanoskar said.
NGTTOA also demanded a proper decision over digital meters which the government is seeking to fix in tourist taxis. Nanoskar said the government should first try this in the black and yellow tourist taxis and see how it works and then decide on it.
Nanoskar said that 15 members of the association face criminal charges in court framed during the 2014 agitation against Ola Cabs and rent a cab and demanded that the charge be withdrawn.
