Thirteen fishermen rescued after their canoe capsized off Colva beach

COLVA: In a tragic incident, a canoe capsized off at Colva beach on Monday morning. Thirteen fishermen including helpers were rescued from the choppy waters successfully.  The fishermen were rushed to the South Goa District Hospital, Margao for treatment.
 On Monday morning, an incident was reported at Colva beach wherein a traditional fishermen’s canoe capsized off the Colva beach, while they were doing fishing activities. Thirteen victims were rescued successfully including fishermen and helpers present on the boat.
As per sources the motor of the canoe stopped working which led to the canoe capsize. Local fishermen rushed to help the drowning fishermen. Luckily no fatalities were reported. All the 13 victims are undergoing treatment at South Goa District Hospital.
A fishermen who was present at Colva beach stated, “The sea is rough. Some of our fishermen had ventures into the sea to catch Solar prawns, which we do not get later (when the season starts). The shoal comes and goes. One has to venture into the sea at that time otherwise we don’t get it. The motor of the canoe failed, but luckily no one died, but the canoe is damaged.”
