MARGAO: Expressing their unhappiness over the outcome of the meeting between taxi operators and hoteliers called by the Tourism Director Nikhil Desai, members of South Goa Tourist Taxi Owner’s Association have asserted that the issue of taxi meters raised by the TTAG is not acceptable to them till all other issues are sorted out.
“The Taxi operators are not happy with the outcome of the meting as most of the South Goa hoteliers were not present for the meeting, except TTAG President Francisco Braganza,” stated Association president Seby Fernandes.
He said the tourist taxi operators put forth four demands at the meeting, including taxi counter in the hotels and car park inside hotel premises. A total stop to illegal reps, revision of official gazette and implementation of the rules and handing over of tourist taxi business to self-employed local taxi operators, were their other demands, he said.
Fernandes said the Tourism and Transport department directors have promised to look into the demands of the taxi operators and come out with an acceptable solution.
Today’s meeting was called by the Tourism Director at 12 noon at Miramar Residency under instructions from Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar. The meeting was chaired by Tourism Director along with Director of Transport Arun Desai in the presence of Benaulim MLA Caitu Silva and PI of Colva Police station, besides South Goa Tours Taxi Association Committee members.
