MARGAO: The tourist taxi operators have expressed anger that they haven’t been considered as stakeholders in the tourism planning by the government.
The taxi owners said that the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) Chairman Nilesh Cabral has gone overboard and has not cared for the taxi owners. The taxi owners have also said that except for Churchill Alemao and Michael Lobo no one cares for them.
Roque Fernandes, a taxi owner, said, “We were sent back by the RTO for want of speed governor when we went for passing. Insurance, tax, parking has increased but taxi charges have remained the same. Still the government expects us of making changes which are anti-business.”
“We wrote to the Arun Desai that you can have speed governor but not just for us but all the taxis. Taxi is the only business for the locals and the government has during Lusofonia and BRICS procured outside cars and gave locals no business. They are choking our business to get OLA, Uber and others,” alleged Kennedy Goes.
The association also said that apps are impractical as Goa is a small State with hotels in villages and with app there will be no big help to the business.
