Touting goes unabated at Mapusa

Over 10 touts and agents of the RTO operate from the KTC bus stand

MAPUSA: Despite several complaints to Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) and Mapusa police, touting goes on unabated at the Mapusa RTO.
Over 10 touts and agents of the Mapusa RTO operate from the KTC bus stand. Some of them have occupied public benches, while others have placed small tables and chairs at the bus stand, obstructing the movement of the public. They charge depending on the work, and their fees usually start from Rs 500.
Many people have complained that the RTO staff is uncooperative, due to which they face many problems. However, their troubles were mitigated when they approached the touts/agents. Some also alleged that the agents/touts were hand-in-glove with RTO, which is located on the first floor of the bus stand.
Porvorim resident Pravin Narvekar claimed that when he had gone to the RTO to renew his driving licence, he was made to run from one counter to another. Finally, a staff member advised him to approach an agent. He added, “The RTO officers harassed me at every counter. I was not able to renew my driving licence.”
Anjuna-Caisua resident Ankit Salgaokar stated that despite several complaints to the RTO and KTC, the illegal activities at the bus stand continued. He said, “I have seen many people complaining about the RTO officers and finally going to the agents. I had also suffered once, and that was why I had complained to the authorities.”
Mapusa Police Inspector Tushar Lotlikar stated that he would verify the allegations and take action accordingly. He said, “If touts and agents are operating from the Mapusa KTC bus stand, then it is complete illegal. I will ensure that these activities are stopped immediately.”
Additionally, RTO forms are available at nearby photocopy shops for double the rate. Form 35, which is a hypothecation cancellation form, is sold at Rs 20.
