Haphazard parking and clogged roads have made the situation worse, with a notable absence of effective traffic management. Many shoppers and traders alike have expressed growing frustration, calling for urgent measures to ease the crisis during peak seasons.

Peter Fernandes, a local resident, rued the deteriorating traffic conditions in Margao. He told O Heraldo, “There is no presence of traffic police or municipal officials to manage the crowd. People are forced to park far from the market and walk long distances.” He added that vehicles parked on both sides of the roads have left little space for pedestrians to move freely.

Traders in the market have echoed similar concerns, blaming authorities for poor planning and failure to enforce traffic regulations. Some cited the conversion of building parking spaces into shops as a key reason for the parking shortfall, leading to declining business.

“The situation is unbearable, and shoppers now avoid coming to the town due to parking issues,” complained one trader.

Recognising the gravity of the situation, the Margao Traffic Cell has deployed additional personnel at key locations to improve traffic flow. Police sources confirmed that a traffic management plan has been implemented to tackle the festive rush, aiming to reduce congestion and improve the shopping experience for citizens.
