MARGAO: The Department of Environment and Climate Change has announced fresh directives to address concerns over noise pollution in Goa, particularly regarding sound permits during night hours from 10 pm to 12 am.

As per the new order, the use of loudspeakers and public address systems during these hours will only be permitted on select days, with permissions to be issued on a case-by-case basis. This also includes applications submitted by village panchayats, municipal bodies, individuals, or any recognised entities in the State.
The department underscored the importance of complying with the provisions laid out in the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000. Authorities will monitor noise levels at permitted events, such as festivals, and take immediate action against any violations.
These directives come ahead of the festive season, covering the period from Christmas Eve to New Year’s Eve, and aim to strike a balance between celebratory traditions and the need for a peaceful environment during late hours.
