MARGAO: On Tuesday, a group of concerned citizens from Margao urged the government to implement greater transparency and fairness in the recruitment processes for the Margao Municipal Council (MMC). The citizens advocated for all direct recruitments to be managed under the Goa Staff Selection Commission (SSC), in line with the recruitment systems employed by other government departments.

The group questioned why certain government organisations—such as the Goa State Pollution Control Board, Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour (IPHB), and Kadamba Transport Corporation—have been allowed to bypass both the SSC and the Goa Public Service Commission (GPSC) when carrying out direct recruitments.
According to the citizens, the SSC and GPSC should serve as the exclusive channels for all government recruitment, at every level, to ensure fairness.
Responding to remarks made by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Sanjay Naik, one of the citizens, urged him to fulfil the expectations of Goa’s educated, unemployed youth by guaranteeing a transparent recruitment process statewide. Naik questioned why various government departments have been conducting direct recruitments despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policy, which mandates that hiring processes must be overseen by either the SSC or GPSC.
Another citizen, Prabhav Naik, raised an issue with a recent advertisement for a clerk’s post at the High Court of Mumbai at Goa, which included a clause prohibiting candidates from having more than two children. He questioned whether this clause was related to alleged nepotism in earlier recruitments at the MMC.
Both Sanjay Naik and Prabhav Naik called on Chief Minister Sawant to act swiftly to bring all government recruitments, including those for Local Self Administration Bodies, boards, and corporations, under the purview of the Goa Public Service Commission and the Goa Staff Selection Commission.
The citizens see this as an opportunity for Sawant to reaffirm his commitment to transparency and fairness in government appointments.
