PORVORIM: The traffic signal at the junction near the Holy Family Church at Porvorim is out of order for the last few days, causing inconvenience to the motorists.
Since the traffic signal is out of order, those entering the highway from internal roads do so without waiting for highway traffic to stop, which leads to traffic jam.
Heavy traffic was witnessed on roads on Tuesday as people were visiting their relatives and friends to wish them for Ganesh before the idol is immersed in the night.
On contacting an official from the Traffic Department, it is learnt that they were aware of the problem with the signal near the Holy Family Church at Porvorim. “To fix the signal there is a need for some underground cabling work to be undertaken. The technician has informed us that they were on the lookout for a dry spell to carry out the said work,” the official said.
Locals playing on this road demand that the concerned authorities look into this issue and find a solution at the earliest.
A commuter Roystan Mascarenhas said, “This being a festive season, people visit friends and relatives. Therefore, the traffic is heavy. To avoid accidents and congestion some alternate arrangement should be made till the time the traffic signal is fixed.”
