PANJIM: The Shiroda panchayat and villagers submitted their draft Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) for their village to Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA), on August 30.
The draft plan was prepared by consulting the stakeholders and by collecting the data through site visits.
It has been discovered by the villagers that the plans prepared by NCSCM are completely wrong, as they fail to recognise the traditional agro-fishery economy of the village, and also fail to demarcate sluice gates, bundhs, fishing areas, fish breeding areas and the economic rights of the local communities. The villagers claim that they have prepared a comprehensive plan that demarcates all natural and man-made features of their village, thus protecting both nature and man.
The villagers are now hoping that the environment and people would both be respected by GCZMA while preparing the corrected draft, by accepting the factually accurate plan prepared by the people.
