VASCO: Three members of a family had a lucky escape after a coconut tree came crashing down on their house at New Vaddem, Vasco, on Thursday afternoon.
According to reports, the coconut tree fell on the house that belongs to Dharma Satardekar, located behind Sai Baba Temple due to heavy showers and gusty wind.
Satardekar informed that his wife, mother and daughter were watching TV after lunch, when they heard a loud noise and rushed out of the house.
“As soon as they were out of the house, the coconut tree came crashing down, damaging the house and items like TV, refrigerator, cupboards and other items. He further informed that Vasco fire tenders rushed to the site and cleared the tree, while Mormugao Mamlatdar Laxmikant Desai disbursed an initial compensation of Rs 2,000.
Meanwhile, Verna fire tenders attended five calls relating to uprooting of trees; fortunately, no major damage was reported in these incidents.
