MARGAO: The annual State celebrations of Tripurari Pournima Festival will be held on November 15, on the banks of the Valvonti River in Vitthalapur, Sankhali, starting at 7 pm. The event is organised by the Directorate of Art and Culture, Department of Tourism, Goa Tourism Development Corporation, and local cultural bodies including Shree Dev Vithal Panchayatan Devasthan and the Deepawali Utsav Samittee.
A highlight ofthe festival will be the State Level Boat Competition, with over 50 handcrafted boats from across Goa parading in a grand display of tradition and craftsmanship. The festival will begin with a procession of Lord Shreekrishna and the sailing of traditional lamps in the Valvonti River (Deepdan). A cultural programme will follow, and then the Palkhi procession of Shree Vithal Rakhumai at 10.30 pm.
The traditional boat competition will take place from 10.30 pm to midnight, followed by the dramatic Tripurasur Vadh enactment. The best boat will win Rs 35,000, with numerous other cash prizes announced.
