PONDA: Despite the Kavlem Panchayat installing parking signboards warning commuters of dangerous parking the truck drivers continue to park their vehicles haphazardly at the sharp turns along the Dhavalim-Farmagudi bypass.
The Dhavalim-Farmagudi bypass has turned dangerous due to haphazard parking of trucks at the sharp turns at roadside and near median gaps blocking the road visibility for vehicles.
According to Panchayat sources, the panchayat has installed no parking signboards and also informed the Traffic Cell to clear trucks parked at the spot. In response, the Traffic Cell replied that it has issued fines to truck drivers for parking their vehicles dangerously.
However, according to locals, this has not had any effect on the truckers who continue to park their vehicles.
Locals have called upon the authorities to initiate immediate action to construct a truck terminus to stop dangerous parking by the roadsides.
Kishan Naik, a local, said, “Despite Kavlem Panchayat installing signboards prohibiting roadside parking, many truck drivers continue to ignore these warnings, park vehicles on both sides of the road and obstruct visibility for other vehicles along the highway.”
The traffic police claim they are issuing fines following complaints from the panchayat, however, the locals complain that the truck parking has not stopped.
In the absence of a designated truck parking in Ponda, drivers transporting industrial raw materials are left with no choice, but to park their vehicles on three bypass roads in Ponda.
